In this post, I will show you 5 places where you can download free historical data for all stocks listed on Frankfurt and XETRA exchanges.

Yahoo Finance
Yahoo finance is the most used website to get historical data. It lets you download data for several stock exchanges including Berlin Stock Exchange, Bremen Stock Exchange, Dusseldorf Stock Exchange, Frankfurt Stock Exchange, Hamburg Stock Exchange, Hanover Stock Exchange, Munich Stock Exchange, Stuttgart Stock Exchange and XETRA. Google Finance
Google finance allows you to download daily and weekly end-of-day data for the Deutsche B�rse XETRA (ETR) and Deutsche B�rse Frankfurt Stock Exchange (FRA).
Here is how to get the download link:
- Open finance.google.com
- Type a German stock symbol such as "BMW"
- Google will suggest you two symbols (on for XETRA and one for Frankfurt exchange)
- Select one of them
- Click on "Historical Prices"
- The link can be found under "Download to spreadsheet"

Netfonds
Netfonds offers EOD and tick data for all stocks listed on the XETRA exchange.

Stooq
Stooq website is one of the best places to get historical market data for several countries including the United States and Germany (XETRA). You can download the recent and historical data for different period: daily, hourly, 5-minutes. Historical data can be downloaded in CSV or Metastock format (binary).
Note that ".DE" suffix is added to ticker symbols when you retrieve data for German stocks.
Another advantage of using Stooq is that the data is delivered in a compressed format and thus it reduces the download time.
Steps:

- Depending on the data you need, click on the appropriate link
- To get the recent data only, click on "Metastock Files"

Boerse-Frankfurt
The official website of the Frankfurt stock exchange (Boerse Frankfurt) offers tick, intraday and EOD charting for stocks, ETFs and other securities listed.
Although, there is not link to download data from Boerse Frankfurt, you can use the following URL to download EOD data:
http://www.boerse-frankfurt.de/parts/boxes/chart/feed/100?request=HISTORY+294:6:6+DAILY+3654+20020828+20120828
The format is as follows:
http://www.boerse-frankfurt.de/parts/boxes/chart/feed/100?request=HISTORY+[SYMBOL ID]:6:6+DAILY+[NUMBER OF DAYS]+[START DATE]+[END DATE]
As you can see, the symbol name is numeric (BMW = 294) and this is unfortunate because you will have to find the numeric id of each stock before being able to use this download link correctly. As a conclusion, we recommend that you use instead one of the above downloaders to get end-of-day and intraday data for stocks listed on German exchanges.
DAX and other Popular German Indices
The DAX (Deutscher Aktien Index) is a German stock index that consists of the 30 major German companies listed on the Frankfurt stock exchange.
Click here to get the list of all German stock indices. You can use Yahoo or Google to download EOD and intraday data for all these German indices. Popular indices such as the DAX, MDAX (Midcap index) and TECDAX, can also be found in Stooq website.
Please note that symbol name of indices may differ from one data provider to another. As an example, the ticker symbol of DAX is "INDEXDB:DAX" in Google finance and "^GDAXI" in Yahoo finance.
